Two people dead after early-morning shootings in Bridgeport

Two people have died after unrelated shootings in Bridgeport in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to police.

In the first instance, a few minutes after midnight, police responded to a residential address on Worth Street. Once they arrived on the scene, police said, officers found 31-year-old Daron Jones unresponsive on the porch of a home, with a single gunshot wound in his chest.

When medics arrived on the scene, they pronounced Jones dead, police said.

In the second instance, police received reports of a shooting inside Keystone, a bar and club on Barnum Avenue. According to police, someone shot 21-year-old Nyair Nixon multiple times at about 2:20 a.m.

After being shot inside the bar, Nixon stumbled outside, collapsed in the street and was hit by a vehicle as it fled the scene, police said.

Once Bridgeport police officers arrived on the scene, they were “confronted" by a “large hostile crowd,” police said. Because of that, Bridgeport police called in Stratford police to assist.

Nixon was transported to Bridgeport Hospital, where he died, police said.

Both shootings are still under investigation, and in a press release police did not mention any suspects or arrests in either case.
