Two people detained as suspects involved in explosion in Chernihiv Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine announced the arrest of two people involved in an explosion at a children's event in Chernihiv on 3 September, as a result of which 15 people were injured.

Quote from the President: "Today I received a report that two people who were directly involved in the tragic incident in Chernihiv were detained on suspicion of committing a criminal offence – the one who gave the order to take the live weapon to a public city event, and the one who allowed to the child to take the weapon".

Details: Zelenskyy explained that the criminal cases are being investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation.

"Once again, I warn all representatives of the local authorities and law enforcement agencies: make sure that there are no live weapons and other dangerous items at public events," the president stressed.

Background: On the afternoon of 3 September, a grenade launcher went off and an explosion occurred at an interactive event for children in the historical part of Chernihiv. Early reports said that four children were injured.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine insisted that all those responsible for the explosion in the centre of Chernihiv be punished. He called on local authorities to prevent similar incidents from occurring.

As a result of an explosion at the military exhibition in Chernihiv on 3 September, 15 people required medical help; 8 of them were children.
