Two people hospitalized after Thurston County I-5 crash Tuesday evening

Two people were hospitalized Tuesday evening after their truck crashed into trees off Interstate 5 in Thurston County.

The incident occurred after 9 p.m. near Millersylvania State Park south of Tumwater, according to a press memo from Washington State Patrol.

A 46-year-old Gig Harbor man reportedly was traveling north on I-5 in the middle lane when his Chevy pick-up truck left the roadway to the right and struck multiple trees. The vehicle came to rest in a ditch on the right shoulder, according to WSP.

A 36-year-old woman from Kaysville, Utah, was a passenger in the car. The memo says the woman was injured and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Meanwhile, the driver was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. Both of them reportedly wore seatbelts.

State Patrol believes drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. Troopers booked the driver into the Thurston County jail on suspicion of vehicular assault later that evening, according to the jail roster.

The memo says the roadway was not closed due to the crash.
