Two people injured in Thursday crash near Grand Forks

Dec. 15—GRAND FORKS — Two people were hurt when the cars they were driving crashed on Interstate 29 near Grand Forks.

The incident occurred at 5:43 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, two miles south of Grand Forks.

According to a report from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2012 GMC Acadia and a 2014 Dodge Durango both were southbound on I-29. The Acadia was driven by an 81-year-old man from Devils Lake, while the Durango was driven by a 54-year-old man from Thompson. The names have not yet been released.

The NDHP report said "for an unknown reason, the GMC was traveling well below the posted speed limit. The Dodge struck the rear end of the GMC. The GMC came to rest in the median. The Dodge came to rest across both southbound lanes of the interstate. Both drivers were transported to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks with serious injuries."

The crash remains under investigation. Other agencies involved were the Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office, the Grand Forks Police Department, Thompson Fire and Rescue and Altru Ambulance.
