Two people rescued from capsized boat in Lake Palourde in St. Martin Parish

ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) — Two people were rescued by another boater after their boat capsized in Lake Palourde on Feb. 10, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

LDWF said enforcement agents along with a St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s deputy responded to a call about a capsized vessel with two people in the water in Lake Palourde and immediately began searching the area.

LDWF agents and the deputy found the two people in another vessel after a good Samaritan saw the two people clinging to the side of their capsized vessel and was able to get them out of the water.

The two people were then transferred to an LDWF vessel and brought to the landing and released unharmed. LDWF agents recovered the capsized 14-foot vessel from the water and towed it to a nearby launch, authorities said.

The operator of the capsized vessel was cited for failing to comply with personal flotation device requirements since the vessel was less than 16 feet in length and powered by a hand-tiller steered outboard motor.

Boaters are reminded by LDWF to wear personal flotation devices while underway when required by law and heed small craft warnings when on the water. LDWF said a small craft advisory was issued Feb. 10 due to very strong winds.
