Two people shot in a drive-by after dispute at South Miami-Dade social gathering
Two people were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital Sunday evening after they were wounded in a drive-by shooting in South Miami-Dade.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, three adults were treated by paramedics. Two people were airlifted to Jackson’s trauma center from a gas station near Southwest 112th Avenue and 216th Street.
The events that led to the shooting began with a social gathering at a home near Southwest 237th Street and 106th Avenue. At around 6:30 p.m., the victims’ vehicle — with three people in it — left the home and headed north on 107th Avenue, according to Miami-Dade police.
“It appears that shortly after, the suspects’ vehicle left the party and followed them,” said Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta, noting that when the three suspects caught up with the other vehicle “near West Old Cutler, they got out of the car, surrounded the car, and fired several dozen shots.”
“They shot and fled in an unknown direction,” Zabaleta said.
The driver, an adult male who was shot in the shoulder, drove to a nearby gas station where a police officer was parked. A woman in her 60s, who was in the rear passenger seat, was shot in the head and remains in critical but stable condition. The man in the passenger seat was not injured, police said.
As of Sunday night, no arrests had been made.
