Two people were shot overnight at Clinton College gym in Rock Hill, police say

Two people were shot early Sunday at Clinton College in Rock Hill, police said.

The shootings happened just before 1 a.m. on campus during an event held in the gymnasium, said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department.

Officers responding to the incident found an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound on campus, and a 17-year-old with a gunshot wound was found at Piedmont Medical Center, Chavis said.

The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Chavis said.

The gymnasium was being rented by an outside group for a birthday party when the shooting occurred, Erin Giddens, spokeswoman for the college, said in a release. She said the two victims are neither students nor employees of the college.

Counselors will be available Monday for students and employees, Giddens said.

No other information has been released.
