Two Peoria-area men suffer amputations while shooting off fireworks

LONDON MILLS – Two men sustained hand and fingers amputations while shooting off fireworks on the Fourth of July.

A 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were flown via Life Flight to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria with non-life-threatening injuries after lighting a mortar in the 1100 block of Bridgeport Road around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Both men were from the London Mills area, according to a news release issued by the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, which responded to the incident, along with the London Mills Fire Department, the Maquon Fire Department, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and the Farmington Police Department.
