Two SBC Lake teams ranked in first AP poll

Sep. 5—COLUMBUS — A pair of local Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division opponents appeared in the first Associated Press high school football state poll, released on Monday.

In Division IV, Perkins (3-0) is the No. 6-ranked team, and Bellevue (2-1) is ranked 16th.

The Pirates have opened the season with victories over Toledo Woodward, Div. IV No. 13 Elyria Catholic and Port Clinton.

The Redmen have victories over Port Clinton and Shelby, and lost to Canfield (3-0) — the No. 3-ranked team in Div. III.

Also of note to area teams, Mansfield Senior (2-1) is ranked 14th in Div. III. The Tygers won, 41-19, in the Aug. 19 season opener at Norwalk. The Truckers also face the Pirates and Redmen later this season.

In Div. VI, Ashland Crestview (3-0) from the Firelands Conference debuted at No. 6.

In Div. VI, Bloomdale Elmwood (3-0) is ranked ninth. Elmwood defeated Edison, 36-16, on Aug. 26.

In Div. VII, Lowellville (3-0) debuted at No. 10 after a 49-15 win at South Central on Friday.

The No. 1-ranked teams in each division included Lakewood St. Edward (Div. I), Cincinnati Winton Woods (Div. II), Chardon (Div. III), Cleveland Glenville (Div. IV), Maria Stein Marion Local (Div. VI) and Mechanicsburg (Div. VII).
