Two seek Altona supervisor post

Oct. 28—ALTONA — Two candidates are seeking the Town of Altona supervisor's post.

Joey Snide is running against Scott Decker in the race.

Snide is a member of the Altona Town Board.

Decker ran for Clinton County Sheriff last year as a write-in, but did not win.

He did not respond to inquiries from the Press-Republican regarding his candidacy for supervisor.

The Press-Republican asked each candidate two questions leading up to the general election:

What do you see as the most pressing issue in the town?

SNIDE

"As candidate for the Altona town supervisor position, I am humbled and eager to serve our wonderful community. As we approach a critical juncture in our town's development, I believe it is time for fresh and innovative ideas. To address the most pressing issue we face, the continued renewal and establishment of renewable energy products, with an abundant source of natural resources, we must harness the power of the wind and sun to creat a sustainable and prosperous future. Renewable energy is not just a global necessity, it is an opportunity for us to reduce our carbon footprint and lower our energy costs. Our town can become a beacon of environmental stewardship, and I am committed to working with experts, local businesses and community members to make this vision a reality."

What would you do to improve the town?

SNIDE

"Our vision doesn't stop at renewable energy. I believe in building a town that we can all be proud of and enjoy. To that end, we need to make significant improvements to our town park. Our park should be a source of pride and a hub for sports activity. I am committed to investing in our park by upgrading the ball fields, creating a well-lit walking path for evening strolls, and updating the electrical service to the campground. In this pursuit, community involvement is crucial. I vow to listen to your concerns, engage with experts and businesses and town employees to make informed decisions that benefit our town. Altona is not just my home, it's our home, and together we can shape its future."
