Two seriously injured in Linden alleged DWI crash

LINDEN – An intoxicated driver caused a crash Tuesday night at Interstate 278 West and Morses Mill Road that left two people seriously injured, police allege.

Wesley Davis, 45, of Avenel, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

City officers responded around 7 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of I-278 West and Morses Mill Road on reports of a serious crash, Police Capt. Christopher Guenther said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2020 Nissan Altima was traveling west on I-278 when it struck a 1999 Buick Lesabre that was crossing the intersection from the left turn lane exiting I-278 at Morses Mill Road. The traffic light was also damaged in the crash.

The driver of the Nissan, Davis, and the driver of the Buick, a 56-year-old Long Island man, were both seriously injured in the crash and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

This crash remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Linden Police Traffic Bureau Investigator Mieszko Niedziolka at 908-474-8505.
