Two shootings in one day in Southwest Broward leave two people dead

Two West Park shootings in Southwest Broward just hours apart left two people dead Monday, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a call of shots fired around 3:09 a.m. Monday near the 4100 block of Southwest 19th Street in West Park, according to a BSO release.

When they arrived on the scene, they found Wayne Whyte, 32, from North Miami Beach, with gunshot wounds.

A Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crew took the victim to a nearby hospital, where he died.

About 13 hours later, at 4:04 p.m., deputies responded to another deadly shooting about two miles away from the previous shooting in the 5800 block of Southwest 27th Street.

Abraham Puthiyel, an employee of a liquor store opposite the scene of the second shooting, Prime Liquors-Miramar, said the loud gunshots startled his customers.

“I heard the sound, but I don’t know what it was,” Puthiyel said.

The sheriff’s crime scene and homicide detectives are investigating the first shooting, while deputies are conducting a death investigation into the second.
