Two shot in early Sunday while towing boat in Lehigh Acres

The Lee County Sheriff's Office reports two people were shot in Lehigh Acres early Sunday as they attempted to leave for a trip to Key West.

According to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, two people at the intersection of Milwaukee Boulevard and Homestead Road encountered a large group of people about 4 a.m. The group surrounded their truck and boat, not allowing them to cross the intersection.

One of the group members fired a shot through the driver's side window, striking both, the Crime Stoppers Facebook post said.

Rescue workers took the pair to Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, where they were treated for critical injuries.
