When officers arrived, they found two people shot to death at a residence.

An Independence police spokesperson said the nearby William Chrisman High School and Ott Elementary School went into a brief lockdown as police searched for a suspect.

The deadly shooting had nothing to do with either school, police said.

Officers have since taken one person into custody, and the two schools have lifted their lockdowns.
