Two shot, one killed outside notorious Staten Island apartment building

Two men were shot, one fatally, when a shooting erupted outside a Staten Island apartment building Friday night, police said.

The two victims, ages 28 and 44, were outside the Park Hill Apartments — a notorious drug spot — on Bowen St. near Sobel Court at 10:20 p.m. when a gunman in a passing black four-door sedan opened fire at them, cops said.

Responding officers found the older victim with a gunshot wound to his left armpit. EMS rushed him to Staten Island University Hospital North, where he died. The victim’s name was not immediately released as they track down his relatives.

The younger man was hit in the leg and was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center, where he is expected to survive, police said.

The sedan sped off. No arrests have been made.

Police believe the shooting was gang-related and linked to the drug trade in the area.

The blocks around the Park Hill Apartments in Clifton have long been a nexus of gangs, violence and drug dealing on Staten Island, authorities said.

In 2014, two brothers who ran the drug trade on Park Hill Ave. for decades were convicted on federal racketeering charges that included two murder plots.
