Two SouthCoast spots make Yelp's 'Best 100 Places to Eat.' See where they rank.

FALL RIVER — The SouthCoast knows good food.

Two local eateries earned a well-deserved spot on the newly released "Best 100 Places to Eat in New England" list according to Yelp.

The list, which covers the six New England states, was announced Oct. 11, by Yelp, the crowd-sourcing review website.

Fall River's Sweet Rose Cafe landed in the middle of the pack at No. 59 and The Baker in New Bedford earned a spot at the top of the list, ranking No. 11.

In an area with no shortage of options for meat-lovers, Sweet Rose Cafe set up shop in 2019, bringing something unique to the Spindle City.

Located at 268 Highland Ave., across from Charlton Memorial Hospital, Sweet Rose Cafe became Fall River's first vegetarian/vegan restaurant.

Owner Lisa Normandin, a former Fall River teacher who previously worked at Westport's Partners Village Store, transformed a former chiropractor’s office into the bakery/sandwich shop, which has since become a go-to in the community for healthy - and tasty - plant-based food options.

A vegan herself, Normandin's mission with the cafe is "to provide options for plant focused diets by offering delicious vegan food that even meat-eaters will enjoy," according to its website.

Sweet Rose Café serves breakfast and lunch and the menu is entirely vegan, though egg and cheese can be substituted. They offer an array of breakfast choices using the Just Egg vegan egg, as well as sandwiches, wraps, grilled paninis, salads, bowls and various sweets. They also have coffee and espresso drinks with plant-based milk.

The Baker in New Bedford has earned its place just shy of Yelp's top 10, drawing locals with its bounty of artisanal goods.

Since 2016, the Parisian-inspired bakery and café run by owner and head chef Brandon Roderick has been serving up fresh pastries, bread, sandwiches, coffee and other treats at 562 Pleasant St., New Bedford.

They offer everything from creative one-day-only specialties to staples like French baguettes and sourdough boules, made fresh everyday.

The Yelp honor serves as a testament to the success of these popular southeastern Massachusetts eateries, since the recognition is based on customer feedback and positive reviews.

The methodology to compile the "best" list used a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews for the past five years, between Jan. 1, 2017, and July 27 of this year.

Massachusetts has a total of 39 restaurants on Yelp's latest "Best Places to Eat" list, and Rhode Island clocks in with 10.

A South Kingstown Chinese restaurant, Jayd Buns, claimed top honors at the No. 1 spot.
