Two Springfield men sentenced following 2021 shooting at convenience store
Two Springfield men have now been sentenced for their roles in a 2021 fatal shooting at a convenience store on West Kearney Street and subsequent robbery.
On Aug. 13 of last year, police say Cody Westmoreland, 25, and Garrett Eagle, 23, were present when 49-year-old Jason Masters was fatally shot outside of the Conoco Village Mart. They then fled the scene in a silver Pontiac. Roughly 30 minutes later, police say the pair robbed a man walking near North Glenstone Avenue.
After their arrest, Westmoreland and Eagle were both charged with murder (under Missouri's felony murder law), armed criminal action and first-degree robbery. Westmoreland was also charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

Friday morning, Westmoreland changed his original plea of not guilty and pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The other charges, which included murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, were dropped as a part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Last month, Eagle pleaded guilty to all counts. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
