Two state lawmakers schedule events in Berks

May 8—A pair of Democratic state lawmakers have scheduled events for constituents on Wednesday.

State Rep. Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz will host a district office grand opening from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 1111 Penn Ave., Wyomissing. The event will offer residents of the 129th Legislative District the opportunity to meet the representative and learn about the services available at her office.

"I am excited to invite the community to the grand opening of our District Office. This will be a perfect opportunity to learn about the several ways that we can help our constituents," Cepeda-Freytiz said. "Additionally, I want to emphasize that language is not a barrier in my office. We offer bilingual English-Spanish services. My priority is to support families in my district and resourcefully address all the issues impacting them. I am proud to serve a diverse, multicultural community," she added.

Rep. Manny Guzman will host a job fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 445 Penn St. in Reading. It will showcase more than 50 organizations searching for qualified candidates to fill a wide range of open positions.

Guzman said the event, done in collaboration with Reading Mayor Eddie Moran, is a highlight of his work agenda in the district.

"I am glad to bring back this annual event to the residents in the 127th Legislative District," Guzman said. "I know how important is to find a job, but I also know that this search comes full of challenges. I want to make this journey easier for my constituents and improve their chances to get a job.

"I want to point out that it does not matter the level of education of the applicants, there will be an opportunity for everyone. The organizations participating are diverse. We will see employers like Tower Health and Penn State Health offering jobs in the medical field, but also J.P Mascaro & Sons, a waste management company, and East Penn Deka," Guzman added.

Guzman said the job fair will offer the opportunity to get hired on the spot and the chance to connect with institutions, get informational materials and promotional merchandise.

"Among other companies, Helping Harvest will be there to educate about their incredible work and will distribute goody bags with fresh produce," Guzman said.

Guzman and his staff will be there to assist with state-related questions. For more information, call 610-376-1529.
