Two students killed in Tennessee wreck, high school says. ‘Living in a nightmare’
Four high school students were involved in a Tennessee wreck, and two of them died, school officials say.
McMinn County High School said four of its students were involved in a deadly vehicle crash the evening of Tuesday, May 16.
“Please keep their family and friends, as well as the other students involved in the accident, in your thoughts and prayers as we all grieve this loss,” the school wrote in a May 17 Facebook post.
The school said counselors will be available on campus for students.
Officials have not shared details about the wreck, and neither the Tennessee Highway Patrol nor the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded to McClatchy News’ request for information.
McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy posted about the incident, calling it a “terrible crash” in a Facebook post.
“Please join me in prayers for the families and friends impacted by a terrible crash on CR 750 this evening, as well as the deputies, state troopers, EMA, and volunteer firefighters who worked a difficult scene,” Guy wrote.
The two students who died were Cameron Bohannon and Robert Hicks, WTVC reported.
Bohannon would have turned 18 on Thursday, May 18, ahead of his high school graduation on Saturday, May 20, his aunt, Kimberly Bohannon Hazelwood wrote on Facebook.
“Living in a nightmare,” she wrote. “So many things he will not get to do ... This is not fair. Not right. Moms should NOT EVER have to bury their babies!”
Other people shared tributes for the students on social media.
“Absolutely heartbreaking for these families and these students,” one person wrote on Facebook. “3 days prior to graduation families wont see ... (their) child cross that stage, parents are left with empty holes in the hearts.”
“This is gonna be really hard,” another person wrote in a Facebook comment.
McMinn County is about 60 miles southwest of Knoxville.
