Two suffer minor injuries after crash with semi north of New London, Minnesota

Feb. 15—NEW LONDON

— A minor driver and their passenger were injured after a crash with a semi late Wednesday afternoon at a rural intersection.

According to a news release from the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office, a 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling southbound on County Road 9 as a Freightliner semitractor and trailer was traveling west on 240th Avenue.

Sgt. Julie Wyffels said in the release that the semi failed to stop at the controlled intersection about three miles north of New London, and the pickup struck the rear axle of the semitrailer in the crash reported at 4:41 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver of the pickup, Brice Messer, 15, of New London, suffered minor injuries. Passenger Rick Messer, 45, also from New London, suffered minor injuries as well.

Both were wearing their seat belts. They were transported by ambulance to CentraCare — Paynesville Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the semi — identified as Dean Beyer, 32, from Camas, Washington — was also wearing his seat belt. Beyer was not injured in the crash, according to the release.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Lakes Area Rural Responders, New London Fire Department, New London ambulance and the Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad.
