Two teen girls ejected from vehicle after it strikes tree in Port Sheldon Township

PORT SHELDON TWP. — Two teenagers were injured Monday night when the car they were in struck a tree in Port Sheldon Township.

Just before 10 p.m. July 4, Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a car that hit a tree on Lakeshore Drive north of Forest Lake Drive.

Police said a 2010 Ford Fusion was traveling northbound on Lakeshore Drive and failed to negotiate the curve. The vehicle left the roadway to the east and collided with a large tree. The two occupants — an 18-year-old girl and a 19-year-old girl — were then thrown from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.

The women, both from Zeeland, were transported to a local hospital by AMR ambulance.
