Two teenagers plead guilty in death of Irondequoit man during Gates attempted carjacking

Two 17-year-olds have admitted to their roles in the shooting death last year of an Irondequoit man during an attempted carjacking in Gates.

Edgar Tolentino pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Tuesday in Monroe County Youth Part court before Acting Supreme Court Justice Stacey Romeo, for killing Richard Sciascia, 71, Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley said in a statement.

Anthony Jacobs pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted robbery and second-degree attempted murder.

Around 10:40 a.m. on April 7, 2021, Tolentino and Jacobs, then both 16, tried to carjack Sciascia on Buell Road, less than a mile from the Frederick Douglass — Greater Rochester International Airport.

When Sciascia refused to give them his vehicle, Tolentino shot him in the upper body.

Sciascia was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

In late April, Tolentino and Jacobs were charged in Sciascia’s death, following an investigation by the Gates Police Department and the New York State Police.

Tolentino faces 20 years to life in state prison. He will be sentenced July 18 in state Supreme Court.

Jacobs will be sentenced July 20. Information about his possible prison term was not immediately available.
