Two teens injured in ATV rollover crash

GIRARD TWP. — Two juveniles suffered head injuries after they were thrown from a large Polaris ATV on Sunday afternoon.

The 15-year-old driver of the side-by-side ATV lost control of the vehicle at about 1 p.m. Nov. 6 in a large grass field south of Dayburg Road, west of Union City Road. As the vehicle flipped numerous times, two teens were ejected, suffering head injuries.

LifeCare transported both to ProMedica Regional Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries. Both were in stable condition. Coldwater Fire Rescue assisted at the scene.

The 15-year-old driver and the other juvenile passenger were not injured.

The injured passengers were not wearing their seatbelts. The investigation by the Branch County Sheriff’s Office determined lack of driver experience and failure to use safety belt restraints were factors in the crash.

The Department of Natural Resources also assisted at the accident site just east of Craig Lake.

Because they were juveniles, the names of those involved were not released.
