2 teens wounded, one critically, in shooting outside Mount Carmel High School

Two teenagers were wounded by gunfire near Mount Carmel High School Friday night, according to Chicago police.

Police responded to the 1500 block of East 64th Street in Woodlawn around 10:15 p.m. on Friday, just outside of the high school. Earlier in the evening, a football game took place between Mount Carmel and Morgan Park High Schools.

A 15-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach. He was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital Friday night, where he remains in critical condition.

A 16-year-old girl was shot in the foot and taken to the same hospital Friday night. She is listed in good condition.

No one is in custody and Area One detectives are investigating.

Mount Carmel is a private all-boys Catholic School located in Woodlawn. The football team, the Mount Carmel Caravan, have won 14 state championships, most recently in 2022.

Shortly before the shooting Friday night, the Caravan beat the Morgan Park Mustangs 22-12.
