Two-time Pulitzer Prize novelist heads Library Foundation for Sarasota County fundraiser

The Glenridge on Palmer Ranch in Sarasota dedicated a 12-foot tall monument during a Veterans Day ceremony that honors 355 veterans who have lived at the senior community in the past two decades. The Veterans & Visionaries Memorial Eagle, which also salutes The Glenridge's founding members, stands on a granite base mined from the same quarry used for the 9/11 Memorial. The bronze eagle was created by Dawn Agnew-Mundell, a Ringling College of Art & Design graduate. Visit theglenridge.com.

Temple Emanu-El's High Holiday Food Drive supports All Faiths

Temple Emanu-El’s annual High Holiday Food Drive produced 3,902 pounds of food and more than $56,000 in financial contributions for All Faiths Food Bank.

“The day after Yom Kippur, I went into the social hall and just stared at the mountain of food that our members brought. Every bag was one family being generous and sharing," Senior Rabbi Brenner Glickman said. The food drive was chaired by Bettianne Marcus and Lisa Phifer.

Following Rosh Hashanah services, volunteers hand out paper bags that contain a list of foods most needed by All Faiths Food Bank; worshippers then return to the synagogue on Yom Kippur with donations. “It is our privilege to fast for one day each year. For some people it is not a choice," Glickman said.
