2 travelers on Celebrity Millennium cruise test positive for COVID-19, officials say

Two people travelling on the Celebrity Millennium cruise in the Caribbean tested positive for COVID-19 Thursday, according to a press release.

The guests, who were sharing a room, are asymptomatic and currently in isolation, Celebrity Cruises said in a statement.

Employees are conducting contract tracing and testing all those who came in close contact with the pair.

All guests were required to show proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before the ship departed, the company said.

“This situation demonstrates that our rigorous health and safety protocols work to protect our crew, guests and the communities we visit,” the company said in a statement,

The ship set sail from St. Maarten on June 5 for a seven-day trip visiting Aruba, Barbados and Curacao.

Cruises leaving from the U.S. won’t set sail until later this month. The first will take off from Ft. Lauderdale on June. 26.
