SHELBY — Two people were treated at area hospitals after a fire broke out at 12:11 p.m. Sunday at a house at 44 West St.

Fire Chief Michael Thompson said a woman jumped from a second-floor window of the two-story, white-framed house. She was transported to a hospital for treatment. A neighbor who was tending to the woman was taken by private vehicle to a hospital after he suffered smoke inhalation, Thompson said.

The house had heavy smoke damage to both the first and second floors, the chief said.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined, Thompson said.

Several fire departments provided mutual aid: Shiloh-Cass-Bloominggrove, Springfield , Plymouth and Franklin townships.
