The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a two-car crash in Cortez that killed a 71-year-old man on Friday.

The unidentified man was driving a pickup truck at 2:10 p.m. west on Cortez Road in the left-turn lane. A 56-year-old man driving a pickup truck was traveling east on Cortez Road in the outside lane, approaching the intersection of 7th Street.

The older man began to make a left turn onto 7th Street and traveled into the path of the other truck, FHP officials said.

The left front of his truck crashed into the right front of the other truck and collided with a wall. The other truck collided with a wall and fence.

The 71-year-old man died from his injuries, and the 56-year-old man, who also was not identified, was left with serious injuries, FHP officials said.

The crash remains under investigation.
