Two Ukrainian brigades equipped with Bradley IFVs, Stryker AFVs returning to Ukraine after training, Pentagon says
U.S. Department of Defense spokesman Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder said at a press briefing on March 30 that additional combined-arms training is currently underway at Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels training areas in Germany, with two motorized infantry battalions consisting of 1,200 Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel.
In addition, operator and maintenance training on donated platforms is also ongoing, with more than 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers having completed platform training and 40 different programs of instruction on more than 20 systems since April of 2022, he said.
“Training for Ukrainian Forces is an international effort being conducted in partnership with our coalition partners, who are currently training more than 11,000 Ukrainian soldiers across 26 different nations,” Ryder said.
In recent weeks, Ukraine has received Leopard 2 main battle tanks from a number of countries, in addition to UK Challenger 2 tanks, Stryker armored fighting vehicles, Cougar mine-resistant, armor-protected vehicles from the United States, Bradley and Marder infantry fighting vehicles, and the first four Soviet MiG-29 fighter jets supplied by Slovakia.
Earlier U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that Ukrainian forces have good prospects for a successful counter-offensive this spring and a “significant advantage” compared to Russia.
