Two-vehicle accident claims life of Dwight man

UNION TOWNSHIP — A Dwight man was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle accident in Union Township between Saunemin and Dwight Monday afternoon.

According to a release from the Livingston County Coroner's office, James Lee Mixon, 62, of Dwight was killed when his 2014 Chevrolet Utility Vehicle collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Illinois Route 47 and County Road 2300 North in Union Township.

The release did not name the type of the second vehicle involved or if that driver was injured. It did state that there was a fire involved and that dental records were used to identify Mr. Mixon.

Coroner Danny Watson has ordered an autopsy. The incident is under investigation by the Illinois State Police Reconstruction Unit, Officers of Troop 5 and the Livingston County Coroner's Office.

Assisting at the scene were personnel from Illinois Department of Transportation, SELCAS, EMS, Saunemin, Odell, Pontiac, Cullom and Campus fire departments.
