DPS IDs 19 year-old killed in Wednesday morning crash in Hockley County

One person was killed when a car and tractor-trailer crashed Wednesday morning on U.S. Highway 385 in Hockley County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Investigators believe 19-year-old Elaine Maribel of Sudan was driving a 2016 Nissan Versa south on U.S. 385 on clear and dry road conditions 4.2 miles north of Whitharral. Around 9 a.m., a northbound tractor-trailer drifted into southbound lane and crashed into the Nissan.

Maribel died from the injuries she suffered from the crash, according to DPS. The driver of the other vehicle was treated on the scene for minor injuries.

The two-vehicle crash temporarily closed the north and southbound lanes of U.S. 385 for a time Wednesday morning, according to DPS.

No other information about the crash has been released at this time.
