Former DeBary councilman one of two Volusia County men charged with child sex abuse

Two West Volusia County men, including a former elected official, are being held without bail following their respective arrests Wednesday on child sex abuse charges, according to the sheriff's office.

DeBary resident Daniel Tillis, a former city councilman, 76, is charged with lewd/lascivious molestation by a person 18 years of age or older on a victim less than 12 years of age, records show.

Tillis, owner of Tillis Pest Control, wasn't a stranger to the child, and during the investigation, two adults reported they'd suffered sexual abuse by Tillis when they were children, according to the sheriff's office.

Orange City resident Jacob Bloom, 32, also is charged with lewd/lascivious molestation by a person 18 years of age or older on a victim less than 12 years of age, records show.

Bloom, who wasn't a stranger to the child, has a record of sexually abusing infants when he was 13 years old in Flagler County, according to the sheriff's office.
