Two Wichita Falls lakes to be stocked with rainbow trout

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will stock about 344,000 rainbow trout in selected locations across the state, including two ponds in Wichita Falls.

Because trout cannot survive in Texas during warm months, TPWD encourages fishermen to catch their daily bag limit.

The first stocking at South Weeks Park will be Tuesday, Nov. 22, and Plum Lake will be stocked Dec. 7. Stocking will continue until early March.

The small lakes in Wichita Falls are among eight “Neighborhood Fishin’" ponds designated statewide by TPWD in urban centers.

Texas does not require a fishing license for youth under the age of 17, but adults must have a license with a freshwater fishing endorsement.

The statewide bag limit is five per day, with no minimum length limit.

TPWD said rainbow trout can be caught on a variety of baits and lures, including worms, commercially available pastes, corn, spinners, spoons, flies and others.
