Two women argued about a dog. One was fatally attacked with a frying pan, NC cops say

An argument about a dog escalated into a deadly attack with a frying pan, North Carolina officials say.

Abigail Marie Tipton, 21, is accused of using the kitchen tool to kill her boyfriend’s mom, ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner, reported Tuesday.

The attack came during a dispute about a chained-up dog, according to court documents obtained by The Fayetteville Observer and other media outlets.

Tipton was arguing with 67-year-old Maria Adame, who lived at the same Fayetteville address, according to the newspaper.

The girlfriend hit Adame with a cup, which broke into pieces, Spectrum News reports.

She also “held the victim face down and struck her with a pan multiple times until the handle broke,” according to the news outlet.

Fayetteville police found Adame unresponsive on Friday, and she was pronounced dead, WNCN reported.

Tipton told authorities her boyfriend’s mother came toward her with a knife, according to the station.

But officials later determined the 21-year-old’s scratches were self-inflicted, multiple news outlets report.

Billy West, district attorney for Cumberland County, called the beating case “unusual” and “tragic,” ABC11 reports.

“What possibly could’ve been a minor argument leads to someone’s death,” he said, according to the station. “It’s very unfortunate that that’s what happened.”

Tipton was arrested Saturday and charged with voluntary manslaughter, a felony, according to the Cumberland jail.

As of Tuesday morning, she was listed as having a $100,000 bond and a court appearance later this month, records show.
