MUNCIE, Ind. — Two Muncie teenagers were arrested Monday evening in the shooting of a third teen.

Arjay Junior Graham and Justyn MyKel Johnson, both 18, were each preliminarily charged with aggravated battery and criminal recklessness.

According to Melissa Criswell, Muncie deputy police chief, Delaware County dispatchers received reports, about 6:40 p.m. Monday, of several gunshots fired in the area of 16th and Ebright streets.

A report was then received of a shooting victim in the 2200 block of South Hackley Street. The 19-year-old victim was transported by ambulance to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition Tuesday.

Graham and Johnson were arrested and taken to the Delaware County jail, Graham continued to be held on Tuesday under a $25,000 bond.

Johnson was released early Tuesday after posting a $25,000 bond.

Two other teenagers, ages 17 and 16, were also detained, according to Criswell.

According to an affidavit, Johnson told police he and Graham were driving on the city's south side when he heard a gunshot and "observed a group of people walking in the street."

He and Graham then left their vehicle and began firing guns, Johnson reportedly said.

A city police officer wrote that Johnson and Graham "were driving through the area when they encountered the subjects that were on foot."

The Muncie men "could have driven away from the situation due to being in an already moving vehicle but the vehicle was parked, they exited, and began shooting," the officer concluded.

Criswell asked that anyone with information on Monday's events to call the Muncie Police Department's detective division at 765-747-4867.
