Zuri Craig, a contestant on America’s Got Talent who also worked extensively with Tyler Perry, has died.

His family, who acknowledged his passing on Friday and published a eulogy on his website, did not disclose the reason of his 44-year-old death.

Craig's family released a statement and tribute this past Friday:

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the transition of our beloved son, brother and friend, Zuri Craig. We thank you in advance for your prayers. Please honor our privacy at this unimaginable time of mourning.”

Craig competed on 'America's Got Talent' as a part of the Craig Lewis band.

When Craig and his singing partner, Jeffrey Lewis, sang stirring renditions of songs by Mary J. Blige and James Brown on America’s Got Talent in 2015, they became a sensation. In the competition that year, they came in fifth place overall.

He also collaborated  with Tyler Perry

He appeared in several Perry stage plays, including Madea’s Big Happy Family and A Madea Christmas. He also contributed vocals to the Madea Gets a Job play.

Our thoughts are with Craig’s family and loved ones.
