The third installment of the hit franchise Sister Act is currently in development and Tyler Perry, who is set to produce the movie, and returning star Whoopi Goldberg just shared an update.

While appearing on ABC's The View on Sept. 22, Perry revealed that Sister Act 3 is off to a "slow" start but things are moving ahead.

“I love the idea of us making this happen but you know, the Hollywood system moves a little slower than I’d like to,” he said. “So we’ve got a good script. We’re off to a great start. We’re just trying to get everybody moving in the right direction so we can get it going.”

'The View' co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who is set to reprise her role as Deloris Van Cartier / Sister Mary Clarence in the film, added that it has “taken 20 years” to get this movie going.

“They were sort of lukewarm for the longest time [about making the movie], they said nobody wanted to see it and then Tyler went in and said, ‘I want to see it,’” Goldberg shared on The View. “Next thing I knew, we were on. That’s the power of TP.”

'Sister Act 3' was originally announced in 2020 as a film set for Disney+.

Back in December 2020, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production boss Sean Bailey announced that the Sister Act franchise was getting a third movie 30 years after its last film.

According to Deadline, Bailey shared that Sister Act 3 will debut on Disney+ but did not disclose a date of when fans can expect the film to hit the streaming platform.
