Tyler Ravenscroft completes central South Dakota double with steer wrestling wins at Burke and Mitchell

Jul. 18—BURKE, S.D. — Tyler Ravenscroft surely is a fan of competing in South Dakota after his last weekend.

Ravenscroft, 21, a product of the northern Nebraska town of Nenzel, won the steer wrestling events at both the Burke Stampede Rodeo and the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo. He had a winning time of 4.0 seconds in the Burke rodeo, which was contested over three days, while putting together a 4.1-second takedown in Mitchell. Combined, he scored more than $3,500 money for the victories, accounting for more than three-fourths of his PRCA earnings to date.

The three-day rodeo, which was a PRCA-sanctioned event for the second time in 2022, had a total payoff of $60,981, a strong increase over 2021's $49,514.

In the bareback riding, Colt Eck, of Redfield, Kansas, and Tucker Zingg, of Crow Agency, Montana, tied for 76-point rides to share the event championship. Jackson Ward, of Goddard, Kansas, was the winner on the bull riding ledger, with a top score of 83.5 points, taking home more than $2,500.

Will Howell, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, was the winner in the tie-down roping with a time of 8.6 seconds and scored $1,561 in prize money. Shorty Garrett, of Eagle Butte, won the saddle bronc event with an 84.5-point ride, improving his standing in the PRCA world standings, climbing to 26th.

Ericka Nelson, of Century, Florida, had the top time at the Burke Stampede Rodeo with a finish of 17.12 seconds, finishing just ahead of Mission's D'Ann Gehlsen (17.21 seconds). Joe Beaver, of Huntsville, Texas, and Levi Pettigrew, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, won the team roping championship in a time of 5.2 seconds.
