Tyranny of the minority. Republicans want to 'fix' next election in Wisconsin. | Letters

Since the dramatic gerrymandering of the 2010 census, we Wisconsinites have been straddled with minority rule. Statewide races often trend Democratic, but the Legislature is significantly skewed Republican in a basically evenly split red/blue state.

Now, again, evidence of minority rule is making an impact in the area of voting rights. The GOP-led Assembly is trying to impeach Wisconsin Elections Commission administrator Meagan Wolfe for things that certainly don’t reach to “high crimes and misdemeanors” (“Assembly GOP: Impeach Wolfe,” Sept. 24).

And now Republican lawmakers want to pull the state from the Electronic Registration Information Center system, a nonpartisan national organization that helps states catch voter fraud (“Lawmakers seek to pull state from group that catches voter fraud,” Sept. 24).

GOP wants to exit group that spots fraud They are afraid of wrong folks voting.

Basically, we have Republican state officials indulging wacky conspiracies and undermining voter confidence, such as Michael Gableman’s expensive, failed investigation into the 2020 election in Wisconsin. Now Republicans seem to be planning to “fix” things for the next election. Too bad the last one didn’t go the way they wanted. What will happen if the next one turns out to disappoint them?
