Speaker Nancy Pelosi will be joining Gov. Roy Cooper and members of the North Carolina congressional delegation will be lighting the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree Tuesday evening.

The tree will be lit at 5 p.m. on the West Front Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

Officials said this year’s tree is a red spruce from the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina.

The Pisgah is home to the first school of forestry in the United States, which is now preserved at the Cradle of Forestry in America Heritage Site.

Officials said this will be the third time the national forests in North Carolina have provided the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree. In 1998 and in 1974, Fraser firs from the Pisgah National Forest adorned the Capitol lawn.

The Christmas tree will be lit from dusk until 11 p.m. each evening until Jan. 1, 2023.
