U.S. Rep. August Pfluger (TX-11) opened his new office in downtown San Angelo this week.

Pfluger, his staff, Mayor Brenda Gunter, County Judge Lane Carter, The Chamber of Commerce and other citizens spent their Valentine's Day morning at 135 W. Twohig Ave., filling Suite B to the brim at the open house and ribbon cutting.

"Congressman August Pfluger is excited to open a new and improved office in San Angelo to better serve the Concho Valley," according to a news release. "The office is open full time full-time assisting constituents who are experiencing issues with federal agencies like the VA, IRS, Social Security office, Passport Agency, and more."

Pfluger said there is a lot of history in the office they chose and it even used to be a grocery store.

"We love the federal building, but we have a problem with transparency," he said. "When we though about how we wanted to interact with the community, we knew we wanted to show transparency. Transparency starts with an open door, no metal detectors, you don't have to call multiple numbers or find your way through a building. The community just has to open one door. We wanted a location that was accessible and transparent. We want the community to know we take every call seriously and we can help with all these issues."
