U.S. grants Huawei a 90-day reprieve

Huawei has been granted a fresh reprieve.

Washington on Monday (November 18) issued a new 90-day extension to its relief from sanctions.

The waiver means U.S. firms can keep doing business with the firm.

Huawei has been on an economic blacklist since May.

Washington accuses it of posing a national security risk.

It says the company's gear allows backdoor access for Chinese spies.

Huawei strongly denies all such allegations.

On Sunday (November 17) Reuters reported that the new reprieve was meant to be just two weeks.

But bureaucratic issues reportedly mean Washington had to opt for 90 days in the end.

Huawei says the extension won't materially impact its business either way.

Or change the fact that it has been treated 'unfairly'.

But the reprieve may help to ease tensions as the U.S. and China wrangle over an agreement to end their trade war.
