U-Haul to open giant Elk Grove storage facility. Here’s when the three-story site will open

At first glance, the three-story structure rising along East Stockton Boulevard in Elk Grove opposite Highway 99 could be a business complex or a company’s regional office. That it’s instead a storage site is another sign of an ever-growing Elk Grove.

Do-it-yourself mover U-Haul Moving & Storage of Elk Grove is a couple of weeks away from opening the giant new location at 10261 E. Stockton Blvd.

The facility, at more than 122,000 square feet, will hold 1,300 storage rooms with climate control options plus a container warehouse, Trudell said. Trudell says the company is planning a similar facility in Roseville.

“At this point, we’re waiting for the weather to clear up and some of our final approvals to go through,” U-Haul regional president Chris Trudell said this week ahead of the facility’s planned April opening.

“This facility is bigger than most of the nearby U-Haul facilities because it’s one of our first ground-up developments in the area since the 1990s,” Trudell said.

“Creating a large self-storage footprint is important as Elk Grove continues to grow,” he said. “This new U-Haul facility will enable us to serve a growing community.”

U-Haul is hiring for the Elk Grove location and plans to employ at least 20 people once it is fully operational.

The East Stockton Boulevard site also will offer familiar features from boxes and moving supplies to towing equipment and hitch installation, but with an increased focus on security.

“Our facilities emphasize security,” Trudell said. Cameras are posted inside and outside. Units are alarmed and are accessible 24 hours a day. The facility will also have ample lighting and drive-in loading and unloading areas.

“Today’s self-storage customer isn’t just looking for more — they expect more,” Trudell said. “They know what we offer and it’s in line with what they expect.”
