U.S. Marine Band Director shares expertise with students in advance of Worcester, Boston concerts
After a 3 year hiatus due to the pandemic, the “President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band is back touring the country, bringing their spirited and patriotic music back to audiences.
The Band is set to perform Monday night at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, and Tuesday night at Symphony Hall in Boston.
But before his own performance, the world-renowned conductor of the ensemble, Colonel Jason Fettig, stopped off at Medfield High School to work the high school band in an “open rehearsal” format. Col. Fettig shared his insight and expertise with the high school students on stage and the middle school students in the audience.
“Talking about some concepts: how to make a wonderful sound, how to be emotionally vulnerable… I hope they took away a few tips that will help them with the rest of their semester,” Col. Fettig told Boston 25 News after the rehearsal. “I hope it inspires them, whether they decide to be professional musicians or not is almost beside the point. They’re going to be music lovers and understand the power of music and I hope that our concerts do that for those students.”

As Director, Col. Fettig is the music adviser to the White House. He led the musical program for the Inaugurations of President Donald Trump and President Joseph Biden and the State Funeral of George H.W. Bush.
