U.S. men's soccer has qualified for the World Cup knockout round. Where to watch

For the first time since 2014, the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team has advanced to the knockout stage in the FIFA World Cup, as they are set to face the Netherlands on Saturday.

The match starts at 10 a.m., so if you're hoping to catch it at a local bar or restaurant, be sure it opens early.

Skybokx 109 in Natick is one such option. The restaurant decided to open early after seeing a strong turnout for last week's match vs. England, which ended in a scoreless draw.

"We are going to be opening at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday. We are opening early to give all of our USA soccer fans a place to cheer for the team in a fun and exciting atmosphere," said Jennifer Pfeiffer, director of communications for Skybokx. "We are going to have the game up on all 24 TV screens, with immersive sound throughout the bar so fans can feel like they are in the crowd at the stadium."

Christian Pulisic, right, of the United States, scored the only goal during Tuesday's World Cup Group B soccer match against Iran at Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The Iran goalkeeper is Alireza Beiranvand. The 1-0 win sent Team USA into the knockout round Saturday agaist the Netherlands.

Unlike fans attending the World Cup in Qatar (which abruptly decided right before the start of the tournament to prohibit the sale of alcohol), fans at Skybokx and most other local establishments will be able to enjoy a drink, as the liquor license allows the bar to begin serving at 10 a.m.

"We will have morning mimosas and Espresso martinis ready for anyone who wants to enjoy a drink during the game," Pfeiffer said.

The U.S. has played three matches in the tournament. The first, which occurred Nov. 21, resulted in a 1-1 draw with Wales. Then came last Friday's scoreless draw with England. And on Tuesday, the U.S. qualified for the knockout round by defeating Iran, 1-0.

Strong turnout for England match

Pfeiffer said that because the matches against Wales and Iran took place early on weekday afternoons, the restaurant wasn't open for patrons (it normally opens at 4). However, Skybokx did open early on Black Friday for the England match, and saw a strong turnout, which inspired them to promote a special event for the match on Saturday.

"We had a lot of fans on hand for the England game, and so we've decided to not only open early, but we will be hosting a special event. Guests can buy tickets in advance and the ticket guarantees entry, and also includes an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet," Pfeiffer said.

After failing to qualify for the last World Cup in 2018, the U.S. men are now in the knockout stage, along with 15 other squads. The U.S. was last in the knockout stage in 2014, when it was beaten in the Round of 16 by Belgium, 2-1. The U.S. will meet a Netherlands team that won its group, defeating Senegal and Qatar and settling for a draw with Ecuador.

Pfeiffer said that if the U.S. does advance, Skybokx would certainly host another event for the quarterfinals.
