U.S. military 'flexing' won't help: China
Zhao, speaking to reporters on Monday (January 25), said that the United States "frequently sends aircraft and vessels into the South China Sea to flex its muscles" and that it wasn't "conducive to peace and stability in the region."
Zhao also cautioned Washington to adhere to the so-called "one China" policy and "Three Joint Communiques" regarding Taiwan, a reference to the series of diplomatic understandings reached by Washington and Beijing beginning in the 1970s.
An American carrier group entered the waterway on Saturday (January 23) to promote what the U.S. military called "freedom of the seas," just days after Joe Biden became president.
China has not commented on what its air force was doing, and Zhao referred questions to the defense ministry.
