U.S. Navy sailor Seamus Gray reported missing in Illinois after St. Patrick Day celebration
Police in Illinois are searching for a U.S. Navy member they say has been missing for almost one week.
Seamus Gray, a sailor who was assigned to Naval Station Great Lakes, did not report back at his assigned time, according to the Waukegan Police Department.
Police reported Gray was last seen during the early morning hours of March 18.
According to police, officers were contacted on March 21 regarding his disappearance.
The department's police chief and Gray's mother could not immediately be reached for comment by USA TODAY
But police and family said Gray left the naval station Friday night and headed south to Waukegan for a night of St. Patrick's Day celebrations, CBS News reported.
Video outside a bar provided by police shows Gray walking past a dumpster in an unknown direction looking down at what appears to be a cell phone.
The search perimeter
Police Deputy Chief Brian Mullen told the outlet the search wrapped early Thursday because resources had been exhausted after numerous passes on land and air.
Search efforts planned to resume Friday, he said, will focus efforts on the water and near the naval base, he said.
At approximately 2:00 p.m. on March 21, officers from the Waukegan Police Department’s Patrol Division were contacted regarding a missing person.

Crews are focusing on the Lake Michigan shoreline and beaches, Mullen said.
"We're never not in contact," the sailor's mother, Kerry Gray, told CBS. "The only time I've ever not heard from my son was when he was in bootcamp. We talked 10 times a day, whether it's silly memes, whether it's just texting."
Anyone with information about Gray's whereabouts is asked to contact Waukegan police at 847-360-9001.
