U.S. News & World Report ranks 3 Stark County schools in Ohio's top 100

JACKSON TWP. – Jackson High School is once again ranked among Ohio's top 50 public high schools.

Jackson ranked No. 50 in the U.S. News & World Report rankings, the highest spot in Stark County and placing the district in the top 5% of schools in Ohio and in the top 8% of schools across the nation. It was ranked 1,438th nationwide.

The rankings were released Tuesday. Schools are judged on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well students are prepared for college.

"The U.S. News & World Report rankings serve as another data point to reaffirm what the Jackson Local School District knows: we are blessed to receive tremendous support and collaboration from our parents, students, staff, and community stakeholders,” Superintendent Chris DiLoreto said. "Our faculty and support staff at Jackson High School work diligently to create a challenging and enriching environment for our students across academics, arts, and athletics. This holistic approach prepares our students for a variety of paths, whether it be college enrollment, service enlistment, or employment.

"We will continue to strive for excellence in all areas and look forward to building on this success in the years to come."

Two other Stark County schools are in the top 100 in the state: Hoover was ranked 56th (1,506th in U.S.) and Lake ranked 69th (1,813th).

The top five school in Ohio are:

  1. Bexley High in Bexley

  2. Walnut Hills in Cincinnati

  3. Mariemont in Cincinnati

  4. Indian Hill in Cincinnati

  5. Wyoming High in Wyoming

U.S. News ranked 17,860 public high schools out of nearly 25,000 it reviewed. It ranked 741 public high schools in Ohio.

The Early College at Guilford in North Carolina was ranked as the No. 1 school in the U.S.

This year, U.S. News adjusted its calculations to account for the cancellation of state testing in spring 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Without the assessment data for the 2019-2020 year, U.S. News incorporated assessment results from both 2018-2019 and 2020-2021.
