U.S. puts sanctions on Yemen's Houthi rebels

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Tuesday placed sanctions on a leader of the Iran-allied Houthi rebels who now control most of Yemen, the Treasury Department said. Washington also sanctioned Ahmed Saleh, the former head of Yemen's Republican Guard. The sanctions follow an arms embargo targeting the Houthis which was adopted by the U.N. Security Council earlier on Tuesday. (Reporting by Jason Lange; Editing by Chris Reese)
