Louisville-area man dies following crash that closed U.S. Route 62 for 4 hours

NIMISHILLEN TWP. − A Louisville-area man died Friday after his vehicle and a semitruck collided at the intersection of U.S. Route 62 and California Avenue.

Christopher L. Brogan was driving a 1994 Honda Civic north on California Avenue just before 11 a.m. Friday when his vehicle was struck by a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia commercial semi-tractor. The semitruck, driven by Vishavpal Singh of Jamaica, New York, had been traveling east on Route 62 and was towing an enclosed trailer, according to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

After the collision, Brogan's Honda Civic then traveled into the Route 62 median and struck a traffic sign, the release said.

Brogan, 36, was taken by ambulance to the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. He later died, the patrol said. Singh, 22, was not injured.

The crash closed Route 62 for roughly four hours. It reopened around 3 p.m. Friday.

The patrol continues to investigate. Alcohol and drug use are not considered to be factors in the crash.

The patrol was assisted by the Louisville Police Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, Nimishillen Township Fire Department and Canton Towing.
